Fundraising is key to delivering on our mission, and is accomplished through various efforts on both a national and a local level.
SuperWalk is the primary fundraising event for Parkinson Canada. It is held in September each year with participation all across Canada. Funds raised support Parkinson Canada’s Research Program, and their national initiatives to support people living with Parkinson’s.
Our support group collaborates with Parkinson Canada to organize the Sudbury SuperWalk. Just in the last 2 years, the Sudbury walkers have raised $90,000!!

Our Local Fundraising
Our group relies heavily on the volunteer efforts of its members to deliver on our mission. However, funds are needed to deliver on specialized activities. By far, the biggest of these expenses is the Parkinson’s exercise program at the Parkside Centre. Of all treatments, exercise has been proven to have the biggest impact on slowing or reversing Parkinson symptoms, and therefore improving our quality of life. So, the group underwrites the entire cost of this program for its members and care partners with donations to our group . Other expenses include; educational material (books, DVDs, etc.) for sharing amongst members, thank-you gifts, flowers for ailing members, condolence gifts, and administrative expenses (stationary, postage, banking fees, etc.).
Christmas Cakes & Cookies
Our very popular annual Christmas Cakes and Cookies sales campaign is our primary source of local funding. Beginning in late October or early November, the goodies are sold through multiple channels. With the dedication of our awesome members have still been able to increase sales every year! Member contacts (family, friends, neighbors, church, etc.) make up a good portion of sales, but there are also many local businesses and organizations that graciously volunteer to be sales venues for us:

Other Fundraisers
Other miscellaneous opportunities are utilized to raise funds – every little bit helps! These include:
- Raffles and silent auctions
- Coin collection boxes at various businesses through out Sudbury
